FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

Before the laser procedure

The patient undergoes a normal eye examination after which the ophthalmologist may suggest a vision corrective procedure. Thereafter, information about the patient's eye structure and function - including corneal thickness, corneal curvature, optical aberrations etc. - will be ascertained. All this is done at Eye Laser Clinic using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. The eye test reports are studied by the ophthalmologist before making a final decision, in consultation with the patient.

What to expect during laser surgery?

At Eye Laser Clinic laser surgery is done on an out-patient basis; this means you go home immediately after surgery. A relative or friend, who can take you home after the surgery, should accompany you. Usually, one eye is treated at a time. The procedure is performed under topical anesthesia.

You will be made to lie down on a couch and asked to look up at the microscope where you will see a blinking green light. When the suction ring is applied, your vision will fade out. You will start seeing the light again after the suction ring is removed. The whole procedure will be over in a few minutes. Usually there is no pain during the procedure.

After laser surgery

Once surgery is over you are given dark sun glasses after the administration of some drops. You can return home immediately. You may experience mild pain or foreign body sensation for the first 12 to 15 hours, for which you will have to take oral analgesics. You will have to come for follow up visits from the very next day onwards. Your doctor will schedule the check-ups as necessary.

How long does LASIK take?

In our practice, LASIK is performed as an office procedure in the comfort and convenience of an excimer laser suite. The entire treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Can you have both eyes treated at the same time?

Treatment can be performed on both eyes on the same day. You may elect to have one eye done at a time.

Does LASIK hurt?

The treatment itself is painless because we put a few numbing drops in your eyes to make you even more comfortable. You will feel pressure on and around the eye during treatment.

What if I move my eye during the laser treatment?

While the treatment is performed, you will be asked to look at a light under the laser. You are required to look steadily at the light throughout the operation, since this keeps the eye centred under the laser. However, if you temporarily look away or lose the ability to look at the fixation light, do not be concerned. The WaveLight Allegretto 400 laser is equipped with a special eye tracker that tracks the eye at 400 times a second throughout the procedure.

Will I experience pain after the treatment?

Some patients experience a feeling of burning or scratchiness (Foreign body sensation). This feeling generally lasts from one to three hours following the treatment

How soon after surgery will I see well?

Each patient is different. The eye drop medications cause some blurring, but most patients notice a dramatic improvement even as they leave the office.

When can I go back to work?

Most patients are back to work full-time the day after treatment. An additional day or two is rarely required before returning to work. If you can we, recommend that you take it easy for a couple of days.

What is the latest in LASIK technology?

The safety and accuracy of the LASIK treatment largely depends on the
machine on which it is performed. Though there are various machines
available for LASIK, Allegratto wave eye Q and Morya microkeratome is the best , workstation trusted and accepted worldwide.

We have now updated our machine with the latest and most advanced Allegratto wave eye Q which can provide SUPERVISION or EAGLES VISION in the sense that if a normal person has 6/6 visual acuity, with Allegratto wave he can hava a better visual acuity of even 6/4 or 6/3. Here a customised laser ablation is performed, specific to each individual eye. This is done by a very advanced technique by eliminating the aberrations of the eye. This has taken refractive surgery to a different plane resulting in a better quality of vision than what nature can offer.

Can there be re-treatments ?

Yes, if necessary. Usually LASIK is a very predictable surgery. Under or over corrections which we necessitate retreatment are extremely rare. If at all it is required, retreatment can be performed 3 to 6 months after the initial treatment.

Will I need specs after surgery ?

Thinner corneas may not permit complete removal of refractive
error. In this case your removal number may need to be corrected with
glasses. This will be made clear to you before you undergo lasik. 95%
chances are that you will not require specs for your routine
activities, and driving.

What is T-CAT? ( Topography based customized ablation treatment)?

The ALLEGRO Topolyzer has been specifically designed to
measure and generate high resolution data for eyes with
severe irregularities. It was developed for the most difficult
cases, in which standard wavefront measurement would
prove clinically ineffective.

The complex eyes that can be treated with the system fall into several categories:

  • Previous laser vision correction or radial keratotomy patients with very small optical zones.

  • Decentered ablations.

  • Central islands (localized areas of central steepness)

  • Irregular astigmatism after laser vision correction, an irregular microkeratome cut or corneal transplant.

What is A-CAT? ( Aberroscopy based customized ablation treatment)

Allergro A_CAT ( or wavefront-guided) treatments are intended for use on patients with high incidence of higher order aberrations in their optical system. The ALLEGRO Analyzer has been specifically designed to deliver wavefront data needed to perform wavefront-guided laser vision correction .All necessary treatment and patients parameter are transferred from the ALLEGRO Analyzer to the ALLEGRETTO WAVE laser systems via diskette. The ALLEGRO A-CAT software inside the laser notebook calculates the appropriate correction pattern.
