Does LASIk procedure require anaesthesia?
LASIK is a very simple procedure done with application of just anaesthetic eye drops which will numb the eye. It is just the reshaping of the cornea with the help of a cold laser (Excimer Laser), with sub micron accuracy
How is LASIK done?
A thin hinged flap of cornea is with the help of a Moria microkeratome and laser is applied on the cornea in computer controlled, predetermined manner. The flap is then repositioned in its original place.
How old is the treatment ?
The first lasik procedure was done twenty years back since
then it is the most widely used procedure for correction of refractive
errors.
Is Lasik better than contact lenses ?
The effect of LASIK is permanent there fore once it is done.
You will not be dependent on CL / Specs. Contact lenses require daily
care and maintenance and need to be changed from time to time.
Why would you be interested in
LASIK?
-
You do not want to wear spectacles or contact lenses.
-
You feel visually and socially restricted by spectacles or contact lenses.
-
You are intolerant to contact lenses.
-
You want to participate in certain outdoor sports where using spectacles or contact lenses may be a problem.
-
You plan to join certain professions wherein excellent uncorrected visual acuity is a prerequisite.
Who can undergo a laser correction procedure?
-
Nearsighted, farsighted, and astigmatic patients are potential candidates for LASIK
-
You must be above 18 years old.
-
Should have healthy eyes that are free from retinal problems, corneal scars, and any eye disease are suitable.
-
You should not have had a significant change in your spectacle prescription for the past 12 months.
-
You should not have any ocular surface abnormality such as dry eyes.
-
Your cornea should have adequate thickness for it to be operated upon
What powers can be corrected by Lasik ?
The Allegreto wave eye Q can safely correct errors from -14-0
to + 6.00 D. Mixed astigmatism & cylindrical Numbers can also be corrected.
Are there any contraindications?
There are certain medications that should be discontinued prior to surgery. Persons who are pregnant or nursing should postpone their surgery until their hormonal status is back to normal. People with certain corneal conditions such as keratoconus should be excluded prior to surgery.
What are the newer advances in Lasik ?
The new LASIK machine Allegreto Wave Eye Q has faster laser delivery
time. A flying spot laser delivery with eye tracking and wavefront correction . Also it ablates 40% less tissue for every
dioptre correction.
What is Lepto-lasik?
In Lasik surgery, first a flap of cornea is made. With standard LASIK the flap
is created at a depth of between 130 and 180 microns. Thinner the flap, the better it is. This flap is made by a very delicate precise computerized machine called microkeratome.
The lasik procedure in which this flaps are taken is called Lepto-lasik. Our microkeratome, Moria One, makes the thinnest flap of 90 microns.
What are the advantages of Lepto-lasik?
There are several clear advantages to adopting such an approach.
-
An improved adhesion of the flap to the stromal bed after the ablation.
-
Thinner cut means that there is more tissue available for the actual ablation.
-
The thinner flaps enable surgeons to treat a larger optical zone with a shallower ablation depth giving our patients a better quality of vision than they would have with standard LASIK procedures.
After doing Lepto-lasik patients experienced a much faster visual recovery using his approach. Patients see markedly better after this treatment. There is an improvement in contrast sensitivity, a reduction of higher order aberrations.
