In the present
technique of cataract surgery, the cataract is
not removed in toto, but a part of its anterior
capsule and the entire posterior capsule is left
behind. After sometime the posterior capsule may
thicken or opacity. In presence of an
intraocular lens, the only safe way to cut the
opacified capsule is with the YAG laser, giving
excellent post capsulotomy results.

The octopus 1 2 3 is a fully automated perimeter which
uses a dedicated computer for plotting of fields. The
instrument is highly sensitive and accurate, it works by
projecting spots of light and various intensity in
different areas of the visual fields. Glaucoma is known
blinding disease with a unidirectional progress. Also as
many times it is as asymptomatic confirmatory diagnostic
information, Automated perimetry is an indispensible
tool. The advantage of good field analysis is early
diagnosis of many diseases like glaucoma, macular
disease, intracranial lesions like tumours, vascular
accidents, etc. involving the optic tract. |

Retinal Nerve Fibre Layer (RNFL) damage may occur up to 6 years before a patient develops detectable visual field changes. and according to Ocular Hypertensive Study (OHTS), 50% of glaucoma patients with ocular hypertension have optic nerve changes without accompanying visual field loss. Taking these structural changes into account, the diagnosis and management of glaucoma must incorporate assessment of the optic nerve and RNFL into the glaucoma work-up.Retinal nerve analysis is done by GDx Scanning Laser Polarimeter.
